The PCMH celebrated the XXXII anniversary of its creation

In a festive event chaired by the Minister of National Defence, Prof. Doctor João Gomes Cravinho, and the President of the Portuguese Commission of Military History, Major-General João Vieira Borges, the Portuguese Commission of Military History (PCMH) celebrated on April 6 the XXXII anniversary of its creation.

The telematic event was attended by the Deputy Minister of National Defence, the Secretary of State for Human Resources and War Veterans, the Chief of Staff of the Army and representatives of the Chiefs of Staff of the Navy and the Portuguese Air Force, the Commander of the Republican National Guard, the President of the International Commission of Military History (ICMH), Prof. Dr. Massimo de Leonardis, the President of the Institute of Geography and Military History of Brazil (IGMHB), General Marcio Bettega Bergo, the former president, Lieutenant-General Alexandre de Sousa Pinto, and the former secretary-general of CPHM, Colonel José de Ataíde Banazol, the members of the scientific council of the PCMH and also other distinguished military, ecclesiastical and academic authorities.

After the opening speech by the president of the PCMH, the commemorative session continued with a keynote speech delivered by Prof. Dr. Nuno Severiano Teixeira, former Minister of National Defense and former Secretary General of the PCMH, entitled “The Transformation of Military History in Portugal”.

This was followed by a ceremony for the awarding of decorations and insignia, which included the delivery and imposition on the former PCMH president, Lieutenant-General Alexandre de Sousa Pinto, of the medal and insignia that were recently awarded to him by the ICMH (honorary member of the board) and the IGMHB (honorary member). 

The evocative session ended with a speech delivered by his Excellency the Minister of National Defence, who reaffirmed, and publicly praised, the relevant role played since 1989 by the Portuguese Commission of Military History in favour of research, study and dissemination of the military history of Portugal, both at national and international levels.
