Conference on War and Military-Political Alliances in Prague
From 19 to 21 March 2025, an international conference entitled War and Military-Political Alliances in the Modern and Contemporary History of Central Europe: Strengths, Limits, Challenges was held at the Army Museum in Prague, Žižkov. The conference was co-organized by the host Military History Institute Prague, the Institute of Contemporary History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Czech Commission of Military History (CZE CMH), as the national representative of the International Commission of Military History (ICMH).
The event was also supported by the Academy of the Czech Republic's Strategy AV 21 program 'The Power of Objects: Materiality between Past and Future.' The conference aimed to present and discuss, from a professional historical perspective, the various forms that alliances have taken in the past. Additionally, several contributions also focused on the changes in the meanings attributed to alliances, from the early modern period to the present day.
The conference hosts were pleased to note that more than forty contributions were presented by speakers from a total of eleven countries, including not only the Czech Republic but also Slovakia, Croatia, Romania, Latvia, Hungary, Italy, France, Austria, Greece, and the United States.
The main part of the presented contributions will be partially published in peer-reviewed professional periodicals or possibly in a thematically oriented proceedings/collective monograph.
